The publisher confirmed to the media it will host an unveil event for the game on Mar. 1, 2011, taking place during the week of the Game Developers Conference in San Francisco. Additionally, EA says it will also have new game announcements as well as hands-on time with many upcoming titles, including: Shadows of the Damned, Alice Madness Returns, Kingdom of Amalur: Reckoning, and Crysis 2.
Those who purchased the Limited Edition of Medal of Honor this past fall received an invitation to the Battlefield 3 beta. Details about the beta's release date have not been announced.
Battlefield 3 is expected to ship in 2011.

Gameinformer March cover-BATTLEFIELD 3. [64 players- PC, 24 players-Console]
The franchise that revolutionized online multiplayer for PC games is back.
In our world-exclusive cover story, Game Informer unveils the first numbered entry in the Battlefield series since 2005. Many longtime fans are wondering, "what took so long?!" DICE has honed the concept for the true sequel for years, but it wasn't until the company developed the powerful new Frostbite 2 engine that it felt all the pieces were in place to create a proper follow-up. Armed with powerful upgrades like deferred rendering, real-time radiosity, a new animation system borrowed from the EA Sports label, and an exponential leap in destructibility, executive producer Patrick Bach dubs Frostbite 2 "the best piece of technology on the market when it comes to building games."
Battlefield 3 is the true successor to Battlefield 2. Beyond our signature multiplayer, we have also included a full single-player campaign and a co-op campaign – all straight out of the box. As for fan favorite features, how does the return of jets, prone, and 64-player multiplayer (on PC) sound? All this built with our powerful new game engine Frostbite 2, which you'll hear and see a lot of in the months leading up to launch.
Oh and its been confirmed that you can expect DLC to come with this title too, don't say I didn't warn you ladies.
Free if you preorder, will cost if you don't.

First look at Frostbite 2 engine and well lighting and potential BF3 maps I suppose.
As usual folks I find the EA forums themselves the best source for intel on upcoming EA games, if you want to have a look here is the Link.

looks nice, i also have high hopes for this game, although am pissed its coming out for consoles(despite their epic nerfs )
EDIT: why isnt large maps checked off on that list? you cant exactly have 64 players and jets on a bc2 size map

I really want this to be a good game. Liked Battlefield 2. Will probably wait for a decent review and buy it

It would depend on your definition of large I believe, do you mean BC2 Conquest large or proper BF2 (any map) large! As yet no details about map size or pictures have leaked out, until they do the check box for it can't be ticked done.

I want it to be good too mate, but going on recent game releases its best to be cautious and waiting for reviews is sound advice.

It's still going to have to be something EPIC to beat M.A.G imo. 64 players is a bit weak when compared to 256 on a consle game!
Upon saying that i do hope it's done well and not too dumbed down, the PC really needs a decent multiplayer FPS title back on the scene.

DICE says it's "learnt its lesson" following Battlefield: Bad Company 2's sparse DLC schedule - and it won't make the same mistakes with just-announced Battlefield 3.
Speaking in the latest issue of US retail mag Game Informer, DICE exec producer Patrick Bach acknowledged that not releasing a new map pack for six months saw the Bad Company 2 community drop off drastically.
"To be honest, Bad Company 2 was a bigger success than we anticipated," he admitted. "We did not account for that. We sold a lot of copies and don't feel bad about where we were, but looking back, we should have released more, bigger content after."
He added: "We were more successful with our approach then anticipated. We didn't think most people would hit level 22 to be honest, and especially so fast. Our calculations on how much people would play to hit level 20, 25, 50 were completely wrong. We thought people wouldn't play that much."
For Battlefield 3, says Bach, DICE will properly prepare for post-release content to keep the community occupied.
"We've learnt our lesson now, and have a lot of really interesting plans for how to keep the attention of the players. We can do better in that area," he said.
"The challenge is to build a game, and then have more people coming on before the project is done to start building extra content because it takes a lot of time to get stuff out."
There will be "a lot more to unlock", Bach promises, "not only weapons and other treats, but we have more things that you can unlock than in Bad Company 2. We're also making sure that there is a reason for you to reach top rank," he said.
Battlefield 3 will feature 64-player multiplayer on PC and 24-players on console.
More details arrived via the US mag this morning, including news that PC is being treated as the lead platform for the EA game.
-Aiming for CY Q4 2011 release -Concept for BF3 has been in the works for years, waiting on proper tech to seamlessly come together -Frosbite 2.0 is the culmination of this tech, entirely re-written -Lighting sounds neat, one "probe" contains more lighting information than an entire BFBC2 level. -Level destruction is going to be "believable" but basically everything is destructible. -Character animations powered by ANT, what EA Sports uses. -AI characters and multiplayer characters have different animation sets -No more "gliding" animations that look off, animation realism is a focus -Captured their own war audios (bullets, tanks, helicopters, etc) at different distances to ensure realism -Better audio cues for certain actions, more easily able to listen for threats -Plan on better, more immediate post release content -More unlocks than BFBC2 -Dice trying to find a good balance between customization of your character and not having "pink rabbit hat(s)" -4 classes -Will talk about squads "later" -Looking into a theater mode but can't talk about it -Will have co-op -There will be a kill-cam but it can be turned off -BF3's team is almost twice as big as the team for BFBC2 -They want the pacing of the single player mode to be balanced, with highs and lows. Makes the comparison to a song vs a guitar solo. -Part of the single player mode takes place in Sulaymaniyah - Iraqi Kurdistan. -"frack" will be used often, so M rated for sure -There will be an earthquake in a level. The destruction sounds very impressive. 7 story building collapses, looks very well done -Significant narrative that goes with the SP mode -More than one setting, you're not in the middle east for the whole game -PC version is lead version -Why 64 players for PC only? No complains from the console crowd. -No mod tools at release. Maybe none down the line either. Frosbite 2.0 is complex and mods tools would have to be dumbed down, so does Dice really want to put their time to that or would it be better spent elsewhere?

From what i've seen/heard BF3 is basicly BF2 with an engine and gfx upgrade. The more i see the less i like, i guess only time will tell.

Well we know nothing apart from the intel that they have given us so far, be that posted info or teaser/preview trailers mate.
I to have heard the same thing, but from a few people it was because they were redoing the BF2 maps in the expansion pack (which does not make a BF2 reskin). We will have better information once the beta launches what sort of end product we are going to be looking at.
I for one, and quite a few other folks, will not be pre-ordering this (or possibly any other game again)!

12mins of pretty sensual visuals. Don't really care about the single player, but if it plays as good as it looks then should be a cracker. I may even pre-order this *shock horror*

It LOOKS nice enough but i'm not seeing anything that sets it apart from the rest gameplay wise, which is more important as far as i'm concerned. As nice as the vids are, it still looks as though it's going to play like a rehashed BF2 with little new added into the mix, barring the stuff taken from BC2, which hardly makes it ground breaking.
I've already stated my dismay at the low number of players on MP and i've always been quite vocal about my opinions regarding EA/Dice, none of which has changed since seeing this. Call me a hater if you want but i won't be in the que with the rest of the sheep to pickup what's quite possibly going to be just another sub-par title based solely on eye candy. Until i've played an extended 'demo' i certainly wont be parting with my cash.
