It is looking like some awesome-sauce but we still haven't seen any MP game play yet, I want more information and a better idea of what I am looking at before I part with any money.

Besides we have fecking ages until it actually launches, plenty of time to get in on the pre-order and get that BF2 map pack.

Battlefield 3 single player campaign will be around six to ten hours long

Blues News have spotted an interview with DICE’s Patrick Soderlund in which the dev gives a rough estimate for the length of the Battlefield 3 single player campaign. Speaking to Grey Viper, Soderlund said “I don’t have a number for you… yet, ’cause the game is not done yet, and I don’t want to… To me the game can be anything from six, seven, eight, to ten hours, depending on what we net out once we’re done.

“I think the most important thing for me is that the game delivers upon a consumer experience that we’re happy with, and then, that will then… that’s how we look at it, and that will tell how long the game is.”

Of course, for many Battlefield fans, the meat of the game will be the multiplayer, which was shown for the first time at this year’s E3. You can read Tim’s hands-on impressions here, or watch the Operation Metro multiplayer trailer to get an idea of how that’s shaping up. DICE also showed eight minutes of tank-based single player action at the EA conference.

EA’s Battlefield Blog has just posted an interview with Lars Gustavsson – multiplayer designer for the upcoming eye-squintingly-beautiful military FPS.

Accessibility is high on the team’s priority list, especially when compared to Battlefield 2′s refreshingly abrupt design philosophy: “Play the game our way, or play something else.” This time, an effort is being made to reverse the mentality: “The goal with Battlefield 3 is to offer a vast variety of gameplay experiences and to be inviting to everyone. We’re not telling you how to play the game. You choose.”

They’re even putting team deathmatch on the multiplayer menu. That hasn’t been in a Battlefield game since 1942. Battlefield 1942, that is.

he new engine is responsible for the return of the mode. Lars says it was a no-brainer once they’d realised the multiplayer potential: “It would almost be a criminal offense not to offer TDM to our fans, especially with the tactical destruction and realistic soldier movement that Frostbite 2 brings to the game. Our efforts to let you play Battlefield 3 your way also means that you will have the option to play infantry only matches, for that up close and personal touch.”

Don’t panic too much though – the Battlefield stalwarts will remain: “Fans of the series can rest assured that both Conquest and Rush game modes are back, bolder and more beautiful than ever. Complementing these with Team Deathmatch means there are now even more ways to play Battlefield.”

Lars is hoping the extra modes will pull in more gamers: “Part of it is in the variety of game modes and the types of environments you can play in – from the wide open battlefields that people learned to love in Battlefield 2, to the urban gritty maps with their tighter gameplay focus. Combining these two elements and adding destruction and our social Battlelog hub in the same package is something I believe no one else is capable of.

He also talked specifically about the demo shown off at E3, and embedded above: “In many ways, this map illustrates our multiplayer design philosophy for Battlefield 3. Operation Métro starts out in a lush, rolling park outside of the Paris city center. As the attackers push forward and take out the two enemy installations, this is when a normal multiplayer mode in a normal game would end. In Battlefield 3, this is just the beginning of a much larger journey; a journey taking you through a number of distinct and varying environments, each tasking you to re-evaluate your combat tactics and loadouts on the go.”

“we are not going to make any modding tools” Not much of a feckin surprise, lets be honest.

DICE exec Patrick Söderlund has told told German mag GameStar that there are currently no plans to add modding tools to Battlefield 3, saying that the power of the Frostbite 2 engine makes it tough to tweak.

“As of now, we are not going to make any modding tools,” said Söderlund. “If you look at the Frostbite engine, and how complex it is, it’s going to be very difficult for people to mod the game, because of the nature of the set up of levels, of the destruction and all those things… it’s quite tricky. So we think it’s going to be too big of a challenge for people to make a mod.”

Sad news for sure, though no doubt modders out there will see Söderlund’s statement as a challenge more than anything. GTA IV has no official mod tools, but that hasn’t stopped fans from making impressive additions. Battlefield 3 is due out on October 25 this year. stat tracking, friends lists and built in voice chat

Battlefield 3′s Battlelog service is designed to track Battlefield 3 players’ stats, unlocks, XP and kill death ratio over the course of their career. Battlefieldo.com have spotted the now pulled first screenshots of the service on the German Battlefield site, revealing instant messaging features, built-in voice chat and a “join” button to let friends dive straight into each other’s games.

It can be easy to forget how dodgy Battlefield: Bad Company 2′s server browser was on launch. Lengthy load times, slow refresh times, disappearing favourites lists and a hit and miss search function meant getting into a game could be frustrating to say the least. Battlefield 3 leaked alpha footage shows throatstab, magic paddles



The Battlefield 3 alpha is up and running. Quite a few people have leaked videos from it, but this six minute epic is undoubtedly the best. The video shows off a whole variety of play styles including sniping, vehicles, shotgun usage, the classic magic defibrillator and some good old fashioned knife fighting.

Battlefield 3 videos show multiplayer load-out options and Operation Metro map



Half an hour of new footage has leaked out of the Battlefield 3 alpha. It’s not made by DICE, so it’s a good idea to shove it into your eyes as quickly as possible. It could be taken down at any minute. The video is put together by by YourGamingTeam, who investigate the load-out options, test each weapon’s recoil and investigate every corner of the Operation Metro map. It doesn’t look as though the alpha is running with any of the advanced graphical features that made the single player tank demo at E3 so spectacular, but it’s worth a look to get a feel for the size of the new maps. You’ll find the second 15 minute video below.

Battlefield 3 Assault and Medic classes merged, Support class to lay down heavy fire



The latest Battlefield 3 blog entry reveals more about the four multiplayer classes. They’ve been tweaked significantly from Battlefield: Bad Company 2. The Medic class has been merged with the Assault class and replaced by the Support class, who will specialise in heavy weapons. These will come with their own bipod attachements that can be rested on the ground and cover to deliver supressive fire with high accuracy.

The big surprise of the latest blog post is the news that there won’t be a Medic class in Battlefield 3. You’ll still be able to revive squadmates in the middle of a fight, however, you’ll just have to do it as an Assault fighter.

“Assault soldier now has medic abilities,” writes senior mulitplayer designer Alan Kertz. “All the abilities such as medkits and defibrillators typically found on the Medic class are now incorporated into Assault. It makes sense that the class on the frontline will be able to revive fallen team mates.”

The Assault class can still deal plenty of damage, however, and the customisable loadout will give you alternatives if you’d rather run and gun than help fallen team mates. “You can play it your way,” says Kertz, “if you want to customize your Assault soldier more towards medic abilities or towards serious gunplay, it’s totally up to you.”



In Bad Company 2, Medics could wield fearsome light machine guns. In Battlefield 3, heavy weapons will be even more devastating thanks to the destructability of Battlefield 3′s environments and the addition of a new bipod attachment. If you enter aiming mode while prone or near a wall or windowsill you’ll deploy the bipod, giving your gun extra stability and improved accuracy while firing.

“The stability created by deploying a Bipod gives players a massive boost in accuracy and recoil reduction. You’ll be able to unload an entire clip of 200 bullets from your LMG with great accuracy without even letting go of the trigger, all thanks to the Bipod,” says Kertz.

Heavy weapons are central to a brand new mechanic in Battlefield 3: supression. Taking heavy fire will affect your ability to fight. “When you lay down fire in close vicinity to an enemy, the incoming barrage will show up as a graphical blur effect on his screen to stress him and let him know it’s not safe to pop out from behind cover,” Kertz reveals. “Just as importantly, this mechanic also affects his character’s in-game firing accuracy, making him less of a threat by using real world tactics.”

Battlefield 3 is due out on October 25. If you’re wondering if you’ll need to upgrade your PC to play it, check your rig against the BF3 system requirements.

Proners heaven ffs

I hear what both of you are saying guys, and can agree with you on most of it (especially wanting my RRPJ back, I miss it lol).

Lets remember that this is Alpha testing, its only one small map, not a huge 64 player one and apparently most of these vids are being filmed in DX9 (if what I have read is to be believed). So it still may not be as bad as it looks, even if it does all still look a bit samey with elements of BC2 and MOH thrown into it.

And seriously no one else laughed when that foreign type tried to figure how to turn his flash suppressor on thinking it was some sort of fcuking torch, I fecking did.

It looks good really, duno what to think of the classes yet.. Will have to see it in action..
