Hey all,

ive just had to do an emergency format but since reinstalling everything i've been unable to access any anti-virus webistes ( i need to get on one in particular to re-register ), just wondering if anyone has any idea how to solve this or what the problem might be, i've looked into MTU but cant find any problem there and i know its not a problem with the websites as i can access them fine from my wifes pc.

maybe check your security settings (active x ) in internet options

tools-internet options--security--scroll down to active x's ..see if any are disabled and enable them

*maybe try to add the site you want to your trusted sites.......(in internet options also)

Tried both suggestions, still no joy, its a bit of a major pain in the ass as i cant register/update any of my security software or windows ( cant get on microsoft sites either apparently), cant figure out why i can get on some sites and not others.

I'm pretty confident that its not spyware/virus related as everything is fresh ( i've even started over and formatted yet again)and from what scans i can run, checks out clean, i'm at a total loss.

Try this site, it has some removal tools and is part of an antivirus company's site.

I had that problem with a virus too...Wouldn't allow me to update any antivirus software, wouldnt allow me to download any microsoft updates or anything, It was a huge pain in the azz. If you don't have that much installed already, I'd suggest reformatting again with your inet unplugged so you don't get infected while you're getting up and running. And as cranky told me to do, Burn a disc with AVG on it(i can upload a link for you, I'll post it later) and install that before you plug in your Ethernet cables. As soon as you do, Update and run a scan of every file that you want to put back on your hard drive, which could easily be the way you got infected. good luck with all of that.
